Many of my clients admit they’ve been overwhelmed by the sheer number of images they receive, aren’t in love with how they look, or simply don’t know how to leverage them for marketing.

That’s exactly why I created this post—to help you feel confident and inspired about putting your branding images to work. Get ready to learn practical, creative ways to make the most of your photos and truly showcase who you are and what you do.

1. Personalized Cards

This is by far the easiest way to utilize your headshot or branding photo. You can send these cards out yearly to your clients for a multitude of reasons. I have a set of cards for each genre I shoot. For example, if I’m sending out holiday cards to clients in the Upstate, I send out a card with a photo from The Upstate Santa Experience on it. Or, if I’m congratulating a branding client on a recent project, I’ll send a card with a picture from a branding session on it.

If you’re not sure how to create a folded card and want to do it yourself, check out Canva.com to create your own. Above, you’ll see a tutorial video on how to do it yourself. Or if you’re like me and just don’t have the time, head over to Minute Man Press. First, upload the photo(s) you want to use. Then give them an idea of what you want. They’ll handle the design and printing for you.

Need reasons to send a card? Here’s a small list to get you started.

Congratulations! (Following your clients on social media or in the news give you easy ways to send them a Congrats)

Birthday

Promotion

Holidays

Thank You

Cards are an easy way to connect with your client, let them know you’re thinking about them, and a reminder to them that you do exist and what you’re services are. Consider including your contact information or social media handles on the back of the card for easy reference.

2. Business Cards

Business cards are the most obvious way to utilize your new headshot or branding photo. Pick a photo that highlights who you are. This is just one more touch point you can have with a potential client. You need 6 – 8 touch points to make an impression (Salesforce). Every opportunity to show who you are is incredibly important. Incorporate a small QR code leading to your website, portfolio, or calendar for direct booking. Use consistent brand colors, fonts, and messaging to reinforce your professional identity.

3. Newsletters

If you keep your clients up to date with a newsletter, this is a perfect spot to use your branding photos.

Personal branding photos give your newsletter a professional look and your clients will look to you for reliable answers. Personal branding photos help build trust with your clients. Highlight recent accomplishments or testimonials next to your personal branding photo to strengthen credibility. Use a single, professional headshot in your newsletter header or signature to keep it polished and recognizable.

4. Brochures

Brochures are a small portfolio of your work. Personal branding photos can reflect your best work in a professional way. The more professional it looks, the higher you rank in your potential client’s mind. Include concise, benefit-focused copy alongside your photos, explaining what sets you or your services apart. Consider a before-and-after section for your services if applicable, with your branding photos featured throughout.

5. Press Releases

When you issue a press release, you have usually paid money to release them and want them to help boost your personal brand. Utilizing your professional branding portraits helps enhance your authority and shows you as a subject matter expert. Provide multiple image options—journalists and media outlets often prefer portrait, square, or landscape formats. Write a short caption or brief bio to accompany your photo, helping outlets get your story right.

6. Magazines

Magazines are still a powerful way to reach potential clients, and a captivating, updated photo can be the key to standing out in their pages. Outdated or low-quality images risk sending the wrong message, making your brand seem less relevant or professional. By investing in a fresh set of branding photos, you’ll not only capture a reader’s attention but also convey a sense of trust and modernity. Remember, your photos are often the first impression a potential customer has of you—make it count!

7. Magnets

Magnets are a creative way to extend the impact of your personal branding photos, ensuring your name and face are never far from your clients’ minds. By turning your professional headshots into custom calendar magnets—or adding holiday or promotional details—you keep your brand visible every time someone heads to their fridge. This not only reinforces brand recognition, but also adds a personal touch that sets you apart from the competition.
