I am currently accepting applications for my 2026 High School Senior Rep Program. Click here to read about the details about rep perks and extra shoots for free. The application form is here.

Where to Capture Your Style

When it comes to senior photos, location is everything. You want a backdrop that feels like you—whether that’s bold and urban, peaceful and natural, or something totally unique. Fortunately, Upstate South Carolina is full of incredible photo spots that fit every personality.

Here are some of my favorite senior session locations across Spartanburg, Greenville, and the surrounding areas, created to help you find a spot that makes your photos feel authentic and unforgettable.

Don’t feel like you have to have a PERFECT spot either. We don’t have to have an elaborate location to take your photos. It all depends on the vibe you want. From taking photos at your school, your home or an open field, the feeling you’re going for is what we want to capture.

However, I love my lists and a backlog of ideas. So check out these location recommendations to see if anything fits you!

Urban Vibes: For the Trendy and Edgy Senior

Downtown Spartanburg

Love a modern, city feel? Downtown Spartanburg offers cool architecture, brick alleyways, and pops of color for seniors who want something stylish and clean. Plus, coffee shops and murals make for fun and casual moments.

Pro tip: Bring a favorite bag, sunglasses, or headphones as props to elevate your look. (Want prop ideas? Check out this post on props you can bring to help personalize your senior session even more).

Top of a Parking Garage (Spartanburg or Greenville)

Rooftop garages offer that “big city energy” without the traffic. You’ll get clean lines, skyline views, and golden hour magic all in one.

Great for seniors with a streetwear aesthetic or anyone wanting something out-of-the-box. (For wardrobe ideas and tips, see my senior wardrobe guide.)

Downtown Greenville (Falls Park area)

From classic brick textures to ivy walls and the Liberty Bridge, downtown Greenville gives you variety in one location—urban meets natural.

Check out the Peace Center, the Art Crossing, and the bridge for different shots.

Natural Beauty: For the Senior Who Loves the Outdoors

Milliken Arboretum (Spartanburg)

With wide open lawns, ponds, and tree-lined walkways, Milliken gives you a mix of structured and wild. It’s ideal for classic, soft portraits.

Tip: Perfect for dresses, florals, and softer tones.

Lake Robinson or Lake Bowen

If you’re drawn to water, mountain views, and natural serenity, these lakes are stunning. They’re quiet, peaceful, and provide incredible backdrops at sunrise or sunset.

Great for seniors with flowy dresses, sweaters, or casual fall looks.

Conestee Nature Preserve

Located in Greenville, this preserve features wooden boardwalks, open fields, and tall trees. It’s a perfect fit for seniors who love to hike, explore, or want something earthy and serene.

Flower Fields

With so many farms in the area, you’re sure to find a blooming flower field SOMEWHERE in the Upstate.

Thompson Family Farms

The Peony Fields in Inman

Denver Downs

Elf Leaf Lavender Farms

Dirt and Grit Flower Farms

Kidding Around Greenville has a full comprehensive list of flower farms in the Upstate. So check it out and find the PERFECT place for you.

Unique & Personal: For the Senior Who Wants Something Custom

Rail Trail (Spartanburg)

If you love biking, skating, or want to bring a pet, this open trail is a great way to show off your lifestyle. The BMX-style terrain and wide walkways are great for movement-based shots.

Skate Parks or Basketball Courts

Have a hobby or passion that defines you? Including your favorite activity adds depth and personality to your session. Whether you’re a skateboarder or basketball player, let’s document it in action.

Example: We can shoot action shots or candid portraits near ramps or while dribbling at your favorite court.

Your Favorite Ice Cream Shop, Coffee Spot, or Boutique

Want something casual and completely YOU? Let’s meet at your go-to hangout. Holding a milkshake, browsing clothes, or just chilling in your favorite café can add a lifestyle vibe to your gallery.

A few local favorites:

  • Fretwell (Spartanburg) – great light, cool textures
  • The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar (Greenville) – cozy and colorful
  • The Beacon or Sugar-N-Spice for classic diner vibes

Roadside Shots with Your Car

If your car represents freedom, your personality, or your love for road trips (suitcases and passport props would be perfect if you enjoy roadtrips!), bring it along! A quiet road, empty lot, or rural location with your vehicle can create incredible, cinematic images.

Ideas: Leaning on the hood, sitting on the tailgate, or standing next to your car in motion blur style.

Performance & Personality-Based Spots

Are you a dancer, singer, or performer? Let’s bring your story to life!

  • Local theaters or performance venues
  • A music studio or practice space
  • Dance studios with mirrors or outdoor stages

These locations are amazing for seniors who want to show their creative side.

How to Choose the Best Spot

Ask yourself:

  • Do I want a natural or urban vibe?
  • Should the location tie into a passion or memory?
  • Do I want to feel dramatic, playful, or editorial?

Not sure where to go? I help every senior choose a location based on their personality and session goals—plus, I have 34 favorite photo spots in Upstate SC plus more not listed here, so we’ll find the perfect match.
