The Upstate Santa Experience had an exciting launch in 2022. It created a unique, unforgettable and magical Christmas photography session. From the very beginning, we aimed to offer more than just a quick photo with Santa. We envisioned a heartfelt, immersive Santa mini session. Children enjoy a personalized one-on-one experience with Santa Claus in a beautifully crafted set.
Behind the Scenes: Designing the Ultimate Santa Experience
Our journey began with an incredible opportunity. After a post of mine caught the attention of FOX Carolina, Anna Arinder reached out to feature The Upstate Santa Experience in an interview. As a small photography business in Spartanburg, South Carolina, this exposure was invaluable. Although nervous, I was thrilled to share our vision for an unforgettable Santa portrait session.
Together with my husband, Blake, we spent hours designing the set and planning the session with Santa Joe. We wanted each Santa portrait session to be unique, immersive, and magical. Offering children the chance to interact with Santa in a personal, meaningful way. After sharing our ideas and dreams with Santa Joe, we decided to do a trial run and bring our vision to life.
The First Santa Mini Session: A Magical Surprise
Our very first session was booked by a follower of Santa Joe. This follower was just as excited as we were about the experience. I reached out to her to see if she’d be interested in joining us for the FOX Carolina interview. She eagerly agreed.
The big day finally arrived! We loaded up all the Christmas decorations and headed to the portrait studio in Spartanburg. After a couple of hours of setup, the set was complete. The Christmas trees were up, presents were carefully placed under the tree, and special surprises were hidden throughout the set. Everything was ready for the magic to unfold.
Capturing Christmas Magic: The Santa Photography Session
When the interview crew, Santa Joe, and the girls arrived, excitement filled the air. Santa stayed hidden as I set the girls up for their surprise. Then, in true Christmas magic style, Santa snuck onto the set. The girls’ reaction was priceless—the joy, laughter, and wonder on their faces were exactly what I had hoped for.
The portrait session was filled with genuine moments. Santa and the girls shared stories, laughs, and even cookies, all while we captured every magical detail. It was more than just a typical Santa mini session; it was a memory that would last a lifetime, perfectly captured in high-quality Christmas photography.

After the session, Santa Joe gave a heartfelt interview. His love for the spirit of Christmas and the joy he brings to children each year shone through in every word. It was an emotional and inspiring moment, one that reminded us all of the true magic of the holiday season.
